Bryan and Bonny McFadyen purchased Discount Tyres Rotorua in 1998.
After two years of excellence in customer service they were offered the Rotorua Goodyear Auto Service Centre franchise. Their privately owned company continued to grow and moved to their new purpose-built facility in May, 2004.
Day-to-day operations are Bryan's responsibility while Bonny handles a multitude of administrative matters. Both work closely with accountant Tim Wild and lawyer Brendan Wall.
The Goodyear franchise is part of the South Pacific Tyres Group which includes Goodyear, Beaurepaires and Frank Allen Tyres.
The Goodyear Auto Service Centres and the Beaurepaires Shops are the exclusive tyre stores for Fly Buys...no other tyre shops in New Zealand can offer you Fly Buy points!
What do all of those numbers mean?
Look at the sidewall of any tyre and you'll see numbers...a lot of numbers (and some letters)! What do they indicate? Here's a quick look...
Let's take the tyre size. For example: 185/60 R14 82 H.
185 = Tyre width in millimetres 60 = Height to width ratio as a percentage R = Radial construction 14 = Rim diameter in inches 82 = Load index H = Speed rating or index
As you can see, you can learn a lot about your tyres just by looking at them! But don't stop at the sidewall.
Have a look at the tread while you're at it. Is it wearing evenly or is there more wear on one side or the other? Can you see any "wear bars"? Wear bars indicate when a tyre has about 1.5 mm of tread left. When the wear bars are apparent (across the tread lines), it's time to start thinking about a new set of tyres.
Of course, there are other things to look for such as cuts or nails. And what about tyre pressure? A few pounds can make a real difference in handling, safety as well as economy.
Bring your car by and we'll be happy to perform a free inspection and let you know just how safe your tyres are.
Proper Care and Feeding of Your Wheels
Feeding your wheels is easy; just give them a fresh new tyre every 20,000 to 50,000 kilometres. The wheel will consume the tyre tread over a period of time dependent upon its hunger level. If you drive the car rather enthusiastically, the wheel will get very hungry and eat the tread very quickly. If your driving habits are more conservative, then your wheels will have less of an appetite and only pick at the tyre. (We'll bet you thought that the tread just wore off!)
Goodyear Tyres in Rotorua has a full inventory of healthy and safe tyres for every wheel's diet. Please call in, ring us or write us about our recommendations for your particular wheel breed!
Good staff are essential in any business that depends on providing the best in customer service.
The three technicians employed by the Goodyear Auto Service Centre are some of the best!
Ian (known as Badger for obvious reasons) is our Service Manager and supervises the workshop. His long standing in the motor trade and his positive "can-do" attitude are really appreciated by customers.
James is our wheel alignment technician and is a Subaru enthusiast. With a new baby and a new car James is a very happy man!
Luke is our youngest member of the crew and his willingness to learn is only exceeded by his boundless energy and his love of fast cars.
Be sure to drop by and say hello to Ian, James and Luke... they'll be more than happy to answer your questions and if they have time, join you for a cup of coffee!
Have a seat and a cup of coffee or tea in our clean and modern waiting room!
